Guidelines for Keeping Sick Children Home from School

A sick child cannot learn effectively and is unable to participate in activities in a meaningful way.  Keeping a sick child home prevents the spread of illness in the school community and allows the child the opportunity to rest and recover.

  • Fever:  If your child has a temperature of 100 degrees or more, he/she should stay home until they are fever free (without fever reducing medication) for 24 hours.

  • Diarrhea or Vomiting:  If your child has diarrhea or vomiting, he/she should stay at home until they are symptom free for 24 hours.

  • Bacterial infections (such as Pink Eye or Strep Throat): Your child can return to school 24 hours after the first dose of prescription medication.

If your child is absent due to illness, we ask that you please call us to let us know: 874-8180.
