Ocean Avenue Elementary School and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve high standards.

Ocean Avenue Elementary School staff will:

Provide rigorous instruction through a cohesive curriculumin a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet academic achievement standards using researched based instructional and assessment strategies in safe, child-centered, developmentally appropriate classrooms.

Hold student-led parent conferencesduring which the individual child’s achievement will be discussed. Specifically, those conferences will be held in November and March for all children. The staff will make every attempt to schedule conferences at the convenience of the parent’s schedule. Additional meetings may be held at the request of parent or teacher. Interpretation services will be arranged for any parent who needs such services.

Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.Specifically, the school provides formal trimester progress reports in November, March and June. Parents of students receiving supplemental services will receive progress reports at the end of each six week session on student growth.

Provide parents reasonable access to staff.Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents by appointment at a mutually convenient time. The school will make every effort to meet with a parent within one week of their request. Parents can communicate by phone or email at anytime and staff will make every effort to respond as soon as practical to such communication. Interpretation or translation services are available to those who need such services.

Provide parents opportunities​ ​to volunteer and participatein the school and in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities when it is in the best interest of their child. Parents who have completed the volunteer application process with our Partnership Developer will be matched with suitable volunteer opportunities. The best method for regular volunteering is to work directly with your child’s teacher. The monthly school newsletter will keep parents informed about school activities in which they can participate or volunteer. Parents will also be encouraged to attend an

extended school day lesson to be able to ask questions and see the instruction. Translation and interpretation services will be provided to any parent who needs such service.

Ocean Avenue School parents will support our children’s learning by:

  • ●  Monitoring our child’s health, nutrition, rest, and school attendance

  • ●  Attending conferences about our children’s progress

  • ●  Engage in your child’s homework and reading

  • ●  Promoting positive use of our children’s extracurricular time to include monitoring the

    quality and quantity of television, video games, and computer entertainment in which

    our children participate

  • ●  Volunteering and/or participating in events at OAES

  • ●  Participating in decisions relating to our children’s education

  • ●  Staying informed about our children’s education and communicating with the school by

    promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received by my

    child, by mail, or by email and responding, as appropriate

  • ●  Serving, to the extent possible, on groups working to support and improve programs

    and services for all students

    Ocean Avenue School students will:

  • ●  Read at least 20-30 minutes every day outside of school time

  • ●  Facilitate home and school communication by giving to my parents or the adult
